Setting the Stage

Cover Feature, Current

What started in 2016 as a small summer enrichment initiative has grown into one of Central Texas’s most beloved youth theatre traditions: the Austin ISD Summer Theatre Series (STS). From the very first shows to today’s spectacular productions, STS has provided thousands of AISD middle and high school students the opportunity to perform onstage, backstage, and in the orchestra pit, gaining hands-on experience in acting, singing, dancing, live instrumental performance, and technical theatre within a supportive, professional environment.

EVERY JANUARY, gyms overflow, people set ambitious goals, and annual “resolutions” are made. The cultural rhythm is familiar. Yet by February, that burst of enthusiasm often begins to fade. As daily routines settle in and the novelty wears off, motivation dwindles. “Motivation isn’t meant to carry you,” says Pilates instructor Lee Vallely. “Consistency is. Discipline is. But most importantly, it’s about focusing on who you want to be, not just what you want to do.”
